Right at Home, the 700-plus-unit in-home care franchise, has built a national system of passionate franchisees and caregivers working to improve clients’ quality of life. Through a three-pronged strategy that ensures the right people are providing the right services with the right approach, the franchise supports populations aging in place rather than shifting to an assisted living community. To achieve the highest level of service, Right at Home has built a robust support system that provides franchisees access to subject matter experts, coaching, peer-to-peer mentorship, and strategic partnerships that support business development.

“We pride ourselves on being a great franchise partner. We really think of our franchisees as our customers, and we always want to meet or exceed their expectations,” said Emily Undajon, senior vice president of strategic operations. “We do that through our centers of excellence. We have dedicated subject matter experts for each facet of the business model, and I think that speaks volumes. At the end of the day, we want our franchisees to deliver the mission and be a choice employer for caregivers, while remaining profitable.”

“Right at Home really presented itself with a solid mission. The mission is to improve the quality of life for those that we serve. That makes a lot of sense to me. Our caregivers obviously have a clear mission, which is just that: to improve the quality of life for those that they serve. However, we're easily able to see that the mission doesn't stop with the caregivers,” explained Vishal Patel, a New York multi-unit Right at Home franchisee. “It becomes our daily life as a franchisee. The brand itself, the corporate members included, value and live by that same mission to improve the quality of life for those that they serve. It becomes a big circle with us because our caregivers are serving the clients. As an owner, it's my job to be serving our caregivers. If I support our caregivers, they can live up to that mission.

While all franchisees have access to the support systems, Undajon explained that, by design, a day in the life of a Right at Home franchisee is different for everyone, as each local owner is encouraged to engage with the support network in a way that makes the most sense for them and aligns with the current state of their business.

“For new franchisees in our Right Start program, they have just joined the Right at Home family, and we’re having daily touch points to really guide them through their onboarding plan,” explained Undajon. “For franchisees who have been in the business a little bit longer, their touch points are weekly or monthly depending on how they’ve structured the business. Someone who has been in the business for 20 years might not need as much guidance, but we can support their key players like their director of human resources or their sales representative.”

In addition to corporate resources, Right at Home organizes peer groups for franchisees to connect with other business owners who have similar situations. With three tiers ranging from one focused on growth in underserved markets to a small team of the system’s top performers, franchisees have consistent opportunities to connect with true peers — those experiencing similar business challenges and successes.

“What we’re doing collectively — as a system, with peers, with the corporate team, with coaches, and with the strategic council — is functioning as a GPS that is always rerouting,” said Beau Green, a multi-unit franchisee with locations in Kentucky, Alabama, and Tennessee. “With this business model, we have the vehicle, tires, and gas we need to move forward. That positions us well in health care, but we have to leverage that GPS to make sure we get to where we’re going, regardless of new or unexpected circumstances.”

With the industry consistently advancing and demand growing in many major markets, Right at Home remains nimble to support local owners in changing environments. By offering a wealth of resources and opportunities to secure additional support, the team helps franchisees visualize their own futures with the brand. They can build a plan that fits their unique needs rather than prescribing a single support schedule for every franchisee to follow.

“What franchising with Right at Home looks like is different for everyone. The idea is that there is a strategic business plan completed in advance, and having that mini road map to executing quarterly goals helps to keep our owners on track,” added Undajon. “You don’t have to operate the business blindly. You have clarity around your one-year plan, and we are partnering together to help you achieve it.”
