For franchise brands, knowing your target audience and their digital media habits is just as important as populating your page with content. That’s because engagement is a critical step when establishing a loyal customer base and ultimately selling franchises.

On this week’s Social Geek Radio podcast, host Jack Monson was joined by AdvantaClean CEO Jeff Dudan to learn about some of the brand’s best practices that lead to engagement on both social and digital platforms. When the environmental services brand wants to reach its readers on Facebook, for example, it makes a point to know what specific type of content they’re looking for.

Dudan said, “As a marketing organization, it’s always important to start with the data. We have a saying around here that says, ‘Data first, act second.’”

But the “what” isn’t the only important piece of the puzzle when it comes to successful digital marketing efforts. Dudan elaborates that knowing when to release messages to AdvantaClean’s audience is just as critical.

“Understanding what people are doing, where your customers are and what are the media types that they’re utilizing to really be able to target them and get your message across at the right time. That’s the other thing, is there’s content, and there’s who’s your customer number one. Number two, what do they need to hear about you? What’s the most important thing they need to hear about you? But here’s the trick—when do they need to hear it,” said Dudan.
