Since I began working in public relations more than 15 years ago, I’ve been on this obsessive journey to help develop a truly employee-driven company that is willing to take the necessary risks to stand out in a crowded marketplace. I wanted the company to be an agency that wasn’t afraid to be a market disrupter and one that embraced creativity and technology to drive its business forward. For a while, I thought I had found that. But the truth was I was just comfortable. That comfort clouded my vision.

But then change happens. It was sudden, quick and a disruptive one to my equilibrium. However, it was exactly what I needed to make me realize once again that disruption can be a powerful fuel to ignite growth and influence the choices you make. In order to stand out in a crowded world, you have to be creative and willing to take risks. You can’t be regular. And that’s why after talking extensively with Nick Powills and Sean Fitzgerald, I decided to join No Limit Agency* and 1851 Franchise.

As Jim Collins put it in Good to Great, “Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice, and discipline.” That’s what I saw in No Limit Agency and 1851 when I first came up to visit. There is greatness here and a culture that is willing to do things differently, willing to take chances in order to maximize the impact we can have on a client’s business.

Of particular importance to me was the technology and role that 1851, the agency-powered franchise news site, can play in franchise development. Nick’s idea of bridging the gap between PR, content marketing, advertising, social media and independent reporting is creating a completely new, and disruptive way of connecting brands to potential franchisees while arming buyers with the information needed to make the most informed choices possible. It’s unique, it’s different, and it’s effective. I can get down with that.

The other piece of the puzzle for me was finding a group of like-minded people who aren’t afraid to have a little fun along the way, all the while building true partnerships to achieve success. I got lucky. You would be hard pressed to find a better team out there.

While No Limit and 1851 call Chicago home, I’ll be running operations here in Miami, Florida where I currently live with my wife Bibiana and my two boys Mathias and Oliver. I’ll be in Chicago often and have already been told that there is no need to bring flip-flops in the middle of January. In my spare time, I love fishing and sports. Although it’s been tough to be a Miami Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes fan the last decade.

As this first week quickly comes to a close, I’m excited to see where this journey goes. I look forward to leveraging my more than 10 years in the franchise PR and marketing space to continue to build the friendships and business relationships this industry has been so kind to foster. I’ve had the fortune of working with some of the most recognized brands in the industry and I know that experience will serve me well as I help build No Limit into the greatest mid-size agency that every existed.
