Taco Bell Wants You To Shell Out $50 To Be a Cheesy Gordita Crunch for Halloween

The popular QSR will stop at nothing until every man, woman and child is eating, living, wearing and breathing Taco Bell.

Did you ever wake up one Hallow’s Eve without a costume only to throw on an old t-shirt and scrawl the words “HOT”, “FIRE” or “VERDE” across your chest—ready to take on the night of tricks and treats? Well, according to QSR Magazine, Taco Bell is cashing in on this sacred dorm room tradition with a significantly upgraded series of Halloween costumes.

The 100%-polyester garments ring in, on the low end, at $24.99 for a Baby Burrito Bunting resembling a tiny tortilla sleeping bag, and on the higher end, up to $44.99 for the deluxe Cheesy Gordita Crunch Tunic. The costumes possess the familiar sheen of synthetic fabrics ordered from mysterious overseas websites as well as an enviable spirit of true shamelessness.

Taco Bell has been pushing the boundaries between late-night munchies spot and full-on lifestyle brand for some time now. Just look at the rest of its extensive merch collection, hilarious Twitter account or the infamous Taco Bell Hotel. Meme-ability is the name of the game in QSR marketing these days, and brands have to tread a fine line between tongue-in-cheek self-awareness and full-on cringe

In this reporter’s opinion, Taco Bell’s fun-loving and relaxed branding toes the line remarkably well, regardless of whether I would ever drop $40 to look like a hot sauce packet.
