TechCrunch: It’s official: Disney is acquiring Fox’s film and TV divisions for $52.4 billion

The deal is expected to be completed within the next 18 months pending legal approval.

21st Century Fox's film division will be acquired by The Walt Disney Company. According to a recent article in TechCrunch, this $52.4 billion deal will also give Disney ownership of several television channels including National Geographic and Star TV as well as a majority stake in Hulu.

Disney is no stranger to acquiring other companies. Historically, it has entered deals with big names like Pixar and Marvel. One of the benefits of the new deal with 21st Century Fox that Disney has highlighted is the ability to bring X-Men film rights under the brand's control. The company suggested that this will allow for crossovers and expansion of its existing Marvel movie universe.

While the deal is not yet finalized, it is expected to be completed within the next 18 months pending legal approval.
