TechCrunch: Twitter @Usernames Will No Longer Count Toward Its 140-Character Limit in Replies

The social media network announced Thursday that usernames will not longer impact the character limit for tweets.

We always wish for that extra character when we tweet. Twitter has finally answered our wishes and has found ways to stretch its 140-character limit.

Twitter announced that @usernames will no longer count against the 140-character limit. Twitter's product manager Sasank Reddy made the announcement in a blog post on Thursday. The changes started rolling out for users for iOS, Android and the web.

Last fall, Twitter tweaked its rules when it stopped counting media attachments, quote retweets and polls toward the 140-character limit.
