The Charlotte Observer: Charlotte companies brace for overtime proposal

Famous Toastery CEO Robert Maynard discusses upcoming changes.

The recent White House proposal that increases the number of employees eligible for overtime pay has Charlotte companies dealing with the new changes. The new proposal mostly deals with restaurants and retailers, including Charlotte’s own Famous Toastery.
 
Maynard discusses how the company was training employees to complete managerial duties in 40 hours a week. The company will also be implementing a fingerprint sign-in system that employees will use to punch in and our of shifts. If an employee is nearing 39 hours and still has a day left, company managers receive an alert.The proposal is increasing business efficiencies.“It forces you to be a little tighter, a little stronger and makes cross-training mandatory,” Maynard said.
