Stanley Belizor has been in customer service for nine years but has always dreamed of owning his own business. Belizor is finally seeing his dream come true as he opens ProLift Garage Doors* in Rock Hill with a business model that stresses the importance of customer service and serving one’s community.

ProLift Garage Doors officially opened on October 3, and Belizor already has plans to sponsor local charities and events. On October 10, ProLift Garage Doors of Rock Hill sponsored a local golf tournament to help raise money for local kids’ sports programs and leagues. Belizor sees the good that sports can do for a child and is looking forward to helping local kids participate in sports programs.

1851 Franchise spoke with Belizor to learn more about his franchise journey with ProLift Garage Doors.

1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?

Stanley Belizor: I‘m actually still in my current position as a service manager for Tesla. I’ve been with the company for nine years, so I definitely understand the customer service aspect of a business. But it was always a dream of mine to be a business owner. I always told myself I would work for myself by the time I was 40. I explored both independent ownership and franchising, but I couldn’t pass up the amount of support that I would get from a franchise. That support is super valuable.

1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?

Belizor: I think franchising can get a bad reputation because people will look at the cost and think it’s too much. But you really don’t have to be a millionaire to buy a franchise. Before I started exploring franchise brands, I thought you would have to be rich to go into franchising. What people might not realize is that even though you are paying a significant amount, you are getting so much support and a brand that’s already established.

1851: What makes you stand out as business owners in your local community?

Belizor: I’m ensuring that my ProLift Garage Doors is very involved in the community. We are trying to service the community and not just be a business concerned with the bottom line. We’re actually sponsoring a local golf tournament that is a charity event that will help pay for sports programs and leagues for underprivileged children in the area. I want to ensure that I stay involved in the community and build relationships with my clients.

1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?

Belizor: I loved the culture of the brand. I’m excited about being able to help my customers. I’ve been in the customer service industry my whole life, and I see how impactful great service can be. I love being able to help satisfy a customer’s needs, and I get to continue doing that work with ProLift Garage Doors.

1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?

Belizor: I’m looking to establish a stable business that gives back to the community. I want to develop a strong team with morals that align with my own. By December, I hope to have a second technician. Then I’ll be able to start exploring growth options like expanding into other territories or even opening other Premium Service Brands in my territory.

1851: What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?

Belizor: I truly believe that customer service and community involvement are everything. My team and I are here to be guides for our customers. I want to be their go-to garage service guys.

1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?

Belizor: Keep an open mind and explore different options. I’ve done a lot of great things in my life, but to be able to step out and start my own business has been such a rewarding experience. Owning your own business takes a certain type of person who is willing to put in the work. So think of all the possibilities that will happen if you achieve your goals and start working for them.
