Certain communities attract certain kinds of entrepreneurs. For example, we associate Silicon Valley with technology and South Florida with Latin America trade, but no matter the region, there are certain conditions that are typically prevalent – low taxes, high quality talent pool, surrounding disposable income, and fewer regulations, among others.

Small Business Trends recently went a step further to determine the kinds of entrepreneurs that are attracted to certain communities by conducting a study of the U.S. Census Bureau’s Survey of Business Owners.

When it comes to attracting women business owners, there are certain cities on this list that come as no surprise. They are centers of industry, media, entertainment, engineering and technology. But some are burgeoning communities that are just beginning to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit.

The top 10 cities on Small Business Trends’ list include:

1. New York
2. Los Angeles
3. Chicago
4. Houston
5. Dallas
6. San Diego
7. San Antonio
8. Phoenix
9. Philadelphia
10. San Francisco
