Facebook is increasing its effort to crack down on spam and improve security.

The company announced Friday it put an end to a spam operation that generated thousands of fake Likes on publisher’s pages. The fake Likes originated from a campaign to create accounts that would like popular pages. Facebook removed the fake accounts and Likes. 

Facebook released a statement earlier in the week that they were cracking down on fake accounts and the activity they produce off the social media platform. 

“Protecting authenticity is an ongoing challenge – one that requires vigilance and commitment. Staying ahead of those who try to misuse our service is a constant effort led by our security and integrity teams, and we know this work will never be done,” the statement read.
