VentureBeat: Five Marketing Trends to Watch for in 2017
Digital marketers are keeping an eye on these five trends for the upcoming year.
Digital marketing has come a long way this year. As we head into 2017, there are five trends in the world of marketing that brands should be aware of in order to stay ahead of the game and include in planning for the upcoming year, according to a recent VentureBeat article.
Live Platforms
If you think live streaming became big this year, just wait until 2017. Platforms like Periscope, Meerkat and Facebook Live came on the scene in the last few years, which will fuel development of other new platforms. As we see faster connection speeds and larger data plans, the advancements in live streaming technology will inspire more brands to get involved.
Chatbots
In the last few months, bot development has seen significant strides in the Western world. China-based WeChat has changed the way brands interact with customers using chatbots. Facebook has invested in the industry for its messaging platform to communicate with users in a personal way. The social media giant most likely has more plans up its sleeve to use chatbots in 2017.
Augmented Reality Apps
Pokémon Go made augmented reality a cultural phenomenon with 720,000 downloads on peak days and 650 million installs after 80 days of the launch. This trend has enthused marketers and brands to try to experiment with AR in different ways within apps including immersive experiences and those that may be tangentially related.
Beyond Viewability
In the past brands have focused on viewability to measure success, but they are finding that this is not what is moving the needle. Brands will begin to shift their focus more on sign-ups, downloads, and purchases over the media-based outcomes including clicks and views.
Immersive Video
Videos are going beyond one dimensional, including 360° videos and other immersive viewing experiences. GoPro launched viral spherical videos and shoppable videos are immersing users to see products they wish to buy in new ways. SnapChat also introduced Spectacles this year to give users a better opportunity to shoot and share videos.
