Why Introverts Make Good Leaders
If you thought introversion fit leadership like a square peg, you might be surprised to find out that introverts make wonderful leaders.
If you happen to know or be an introvert (along with roughly one-third to one-half of your fellow Americans), you might think that leadership isn't for them or you.
Well, if so, you’re wrong. Introverted leadership can be compelling and efficient.
And look, I get it. The media is filled with stories and videos of the archetype extrovert leader doing their motivational speaking and catchy one-liners.
But the truth is, often leaders operate in the background, taking care of the foundational, strategic and innovative work.
There is a big difference between introverted leadership and someone who acts as a representative or spokesperson of an organization. A spokesperson is public-facing, typically an extrovert, while a leader is inward-facing.
To be a leader, you don’t need to be an extrovert leader or to be the life of the party. You need to succeed at decision-making and problem-solving.
Introverts make great leaders.
