Erik Roby is the director of brand marketing for Teriyaki Madness, an emerging fast-casual concept based in Denver, Colorado. Roby has progressed from a line server during his high school days into a full-scale operations director for the emerging franchise brand, and he spoke with 1851 on his developed perspective on the franchising industry.

He said it is important to have an open mind about all sorts of topics as a prospective franchisee or franchisor, and his willingness and open-minded attitude as a server allowed him to develop the expertise he now has in his current position. “I just kept learning something new every day,” he said.

Roby advises franchisees to embrace a spirit of community and a can-do mentality to make an impact and to further their own careers. “Being the biggest fan of their community is really what makes [franchisees] stand apart,” he said.
