TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, a national, full-service moving franchise, has seen incredible growth in its long-distance moving services in recent months. While the brand has long offered expedited moving services, which pair a client with a team and one or more trucks depending on the size of the move for their entire long-distance route, its addition of the Value Flex service has broadened its horizons, offering a more affordable long-distance moving service and widening the potential customer base.

Expedited service means you have the same truck and same crew from Point A to Point B. You get the same people the entire way through, it’s a white glove-type service, and your items are moved as fast as possible,” explained Blake Casey, moving services manager. “Value Flex is typically used for smaller moves if someone is going cross-country but won’t need a full truck. The cost is a lot more efficient, but we’re transferring the goods from one local franchise to another, so we require a bit more flexibility in the timing.”

The third, less common option is what Casey refers to as the loadable service. If a customer plans to use their own vehicle, they can still enlist the help of their local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK team to pack and prepare the items and load an independent truck. Though TWO MEN AND A TRUCK will play no role in transporting the goods, the client still has access to a professional team of movers who know how to pack, pad, and arrange boxes, furniture, and other goods within a truck to set the client up for a smooth move.

“Our long-distance moving services can be broken down into those three major categories,” said Casey. “With this range of services, we’re able to offer our customers an option that works for them whether they’re looking for a high-value white glove service, a flexible service or more of a discount or DIY option.”

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s Growth With Value Flex

When TWO MEN AND A TRUCK launched Value Flex offerings, it positioned franchisees to add a new service that required a relatively low initial investment but opened the business up to another huge segment of prospective customers.

The service has proven to be an incredibly valuable offering for local owners with over 2,300 Value Flex bookings year-to-date, an increase of more than 450 bookings compared to 2022. In July 2023 alone, Value Flex services brought in over $1.8 million in revenue across the entire system.

“We have customers that are interested in Value Flex for a few reasons,” said Joe Davis, a regional manager in Minneapolis, Minnesota. “We’re a one-stop shop, so we load and transport the items. We can also offer a move and storage solution. Maybe the customer doesn’t want their items right away, but with expedited moving, we load the truck and take it directly to the destination — the move is completed in three to four days. With Value Flex, it’s a seven to 10-day time frame, and we can also store the items for longer if they need. It offers a catch-all solution that we weren’t doing before.”

Though each local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK business is independently owned and operated, the company leverages its network of more than 400 franchises across the U.S. to support the Value Flex service, providing a bit more flexibility to both the customer and movers while ensuring the items being moved stay within the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK network and are handled by movers with a consistent set of service expectations.

What Customers Should Know About a Long-Haul Move

The Value Flex move option is increasingly popular among TWO MEN AND A TRUCK customers, and those looking to take on a long-distance move should start by reaching out. Your local TWO MEN AND A TRUCK team can discuss your specific needs and even complete an on-site walkthrough and evaluation to provide additional context surrounding potential moving options and costs.

“I would recommend getting someone to come out in person several months before the move is set to take place,” said Davis. “Even if you’re not ready to start packing, you can get somebody out in person to get a better idea of the scope of the work. We can discuss where your items are going, figure out what additional support you might need and provide a binding quote, meaning that you’re locked into that pricing and won’t be asked to pay more once the movers reach your destination.”

Brian Stern, a TWO MEN AND A TRUCK owner in Chicago, also recommends fully embracing this preparation process. While it is a good practice to engage with a moving company ahead of time to ensure you’re able to receive the services you need when you need them, starting the planning process early also allows you an opportunity to be more strategic with your packing.

“Moving is always a good time to do a purge; get rid of stuff hiding in the cabinets and basement, and really get a fresh start,” said Stern. “We have a lot of individuals who will add junk removal services to their Value Flex or expedited move. This allows us to really get the packing and moving down to the necessities and things that truly are valuable to them, and that’s a cost saver and stress reliever. An opportunity to get organized and get rid of unwanted items can simplify the move a lot.”

Stern clarified that, while the service is technically considered a junk removal one, he and his team work to repurpose, donate or refurbish items from a junk removal service that could benefit another local family in need. In reducing their own stress, customers can also have that feel-good moment while allowing them to have their own fresh start.

“What has made Value Flex moving so successful is that it goes hand-in-hand with our other services,” said Stern. “We’re able to vertically integrate. If you’re a consumer and you give us a call, we can help you from Point A to Point B, through the purging, packing, and coordinating phases. We know how stressful moving is, and with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, you’re working with dedicated teams who truly care about what they do and have all the options they need to fit into a wide breadth of consumers’ service requests.”
