TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, a national, full-service moving franchise with more than 430 locations, saw meaningful growth in 2023 and the brand is preparing for continued success and expansion this year. Last year, the brand opened 22 new franchises and signed another 30.

“We’re really excited to see people continue to move forward with the help of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK,” said Randy Shacka, president of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. “Of the 30 signed agreements, nine were with managers who became owners, and that includes our two scholarship winners.”

Hopeful entrepreneurs have been able to successfully grow with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, thanks to the brand’s ongoing innovation and expansion of services. In addition to its traditional moving services, which continue to see high demand, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK launched its sister company, TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK, in 2023 and saw ongoing growth of its crated moving services.

“Crated moving services grew by more than 20% last year, and we expect to continue to see exponential growth in the next three to five years,” said Shacka.

TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK, which launched in 2023, already has 35 franchise agreements executed and is operating in 15 states. Jason Galey, senior brand director for TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK, explained why the model is such a powerful addition to the ServiceMaster Brands family.

“We have found this is a very good complement to the franchisees that were already in the moving industry,” said Galey. “They were getting inquiries from homeowners regarding couches or beds they no longer wanted when it came time to move, and the team jumped into an exploration of what it might mean to be in the junk removal space.”

Galey added that, since the brand’s launch, the system has already exceeded top line sales targets, launched a successful website and built a robust support team at the corporate level. In addition to a strong connection to the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK name and a passionate, informed support system, Galey attributes the brand’s strong start to the expertise of its franchisees and team members.

“We have the unique advantage of already having been a moving company. All of these franchisees and their teams have been completing moves,” Galey said. “So, when we introduce junk removal services, the teams are trained on how to do them properly. We know what it means to get that couch down from the second floor, out the front door and into the dumpster without doing any damage to the home. A lot of our competitors don’t have that training, and it's those core competencies that differentiate us even further.”

Not only is growth targeted at existing owners, TWO MEN AND A JUNK truck also has plans to expand its reach to franchisees outside of the current network with an appealing system tied around its technology, branding and marketing, and fine-tuned processes set up for new franchisees to hit the ground running.

As TWO MEN AND A TRUCK expanded its presence nationwide, it continued to drive its cause marketing efforts, leveraging caring franchisees and their teams to support local organizations and individuals in need. Most notably, 2023’s Movers for Moms® campaign was the most successful one yet. The system collected and donated more than 443,000 items to women’s and family shelters through 1,200 community collection sites across 47 states.

After a meaningful year of growth in many areas, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees are prepared to keep expanding and are optimistic about what’s to come in 2024.

“I’m anticipating a fairly strong year,” said Multi-Unit Franchisee with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK and TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK, Nick Bailey. We’re budgeting for a four to five-percent increase over last year, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it go up quite a bit more than that,” Bailey explained. “On the junk side, we’ll have several franchises deploying this year. As we have built up our organization, we have a lot of the supporting roles already here as a part of the primary organization; that makes it a little bit easier to run those other locations. We’re excited to see what’s going to happen.”

Bailey added he has seen many people “waiting around” to see movement in mortgage rates, and as the real estate market begins to shift in 2024, moving and junk removal businesses are positioned for growth.

The TWO MEN AND A TRUCK team has recognized the potential that exists in 2024 and is committed to internal developments that will support the growth of the system and local businesses.

“2024 is a milestone year for us because it’s our 35th year of franchising the brand,” said Shacka. “We’ll also be celebrating our 10 millionth move this spring. As we recognize everything that has been accomplished over the last three-plus decades, we’re proud to be a great place to work and plan to continue growing aggressively while rolling out technology and support to further uplift our system.”

This year, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is looking to add at least 45 new franchises to the system and drive its customer referral rating above 97%. As the TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK brand takes off nationwide, the team is looking to award 40 new franchises, doubling the size of the junk system.
