Ask Michael Mabry about any position in the restaurant business and there’s a good chance he’s spent time in that role. Mabry got his start in the industry as a busboy and worked his way up into a variety of positions, including executive chef, franchisee and vice president of franchising before he assumed his current role as MOOYAH Burger, Fries & Shakes’ chief operating officer.
From line cook to COO, Mabry has had a chance to see it all and it’s that wealth of experience that governs how he approaches franchising today. But if you had to pin down one of the most unique attributes that Mabry brings to MOOYAH in his current role, it would have to be his socks. Each new team member and franchisee receives a custom pair of burger and fries socks upon joining MOOYAH and in a weekly newsletter to the system; Mabry highlights a new pair of crazy socks. It’s his unique way of metaphorically walking in his franchisees shoes and the approach has opened up new lines of communication across the network.
And one thing is certainly clear; the idea is working. MOOYAH has tremendous momentum as a brand and currently has nearly 96 locations open and is looking to add an additional 30 locations before the end of the year.
