As the need for senior support continues to rise, she plans to expand her reach to ensure her community’s needs are met.1851 Franchise spoke to Shirk about her franchise journey and plans for the future.&nbsp;1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us.&nbsp;What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Pam Shirk:&nbsp;I worked for a family practice for 15 and a half years early on in my career. We decided that, if I was going to work that hard, I wanted to do my own kind of business. I did not have a huge business mind at that point, so we decided we were going to go into franchising since the business model is kind of set up for you.&nbsp;We did&nbsp;<a href="https://franchise.edible.com/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=how-this-franchise-owner-is-revitalizing-seniors-helping-seniors-in-lebanon-pennsylvania-2727899" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Edible Arrangements</a> and had three stores. After taking some time off, this opportunity with Seniors Helping Seniors® landed in my lap. It combined the franchise model with healthcare and so that's how we got here.&nbsp;1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchise owner, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Shirk:&nbsp;What I like about franchises is their name recognition. You're in business for yourself, but not&nbsp;by yourself. It also gives you a great business model to base your business off of.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Shirk:&nbsp;I just really like the health care aspect of it. It's not medical, but it's still taking care of people, which is my passion. I want to care for my community and the people in it. I get to work with veterans and those folks that just need extra care right here in our own backyard.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?&nbsp;Shirk:&nbsp;We are actively growing right now. Our hang-up is getting quality caregivers to help us along the way. We have a lot of needs in our community, and we just want to be able to meet those needs the best way that we can. So our plan is to continue to grow as long as the community needs us.1851:&nbsp;What is the one thing about your story you want us to know?Shirk:&nbsp;That while we're part of a franchise system, we love being in business with people. We're still locally owned and we're very heavily involved in our community. That's why we do what we do.&nbsp;1851:&nbsp;What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming a franchise owner?Shirk:&nbsp;Do your research and just know that it's not always black and white. There are a lot of decisions that need to be made that are maybe not quite figured out. You need to work at it to grow. The franchise part does not do that for you, so you really have to be ready to hit the ground running.
