Cape Coral Breeze Newspaper: Sylvan Set to Expand Cape Location

Terry Hiduke, a 72-year-old Sylvan Learning Owner, expands educational services to Cape Coral in response to COVID, the education gap and population growth.

Terry Hiduke, the owner of Sylvan Learning in Cape Coral, has been shaping students' minds for decades. In recent years, he's tried retiring but finds it tedious and would rather make a difference in students' lives in his community. He owns Sylvan locations in Estero and Bonita Springs. Now, the 72-year-old is one of the longest-tenured Sylvan Learning owners, and he’s expanding his services to Cape Coral.

At age 36, Hiduke packed up his life in Indiana and moved to sunny south Florida. He worked as a CPA and partnered with several accounting firms before moving. Once in Florida, he transitioned to the healthcare real estate/retirement industry. He served as VP and chief financial officer for Lee Heath Care before eventually choosing to open a Sylvan Learning franchise in 1988.

Sylvan Learning blends teachers with technology for an engaging learning experience. The brand also features STEM and accelerated courses, as well as college and test prep courses. For the past 32 years, Hiduke has embraced the changes in technology and evolved with education strategies. For generations, he has seen the benefits firsthand of supplemental learning.

“They say their kid was struggling, so I took him there, and now they’re a doctor or a lawyer,” said Hiduke. “Then I have parents who went to Sylvan and are now bringing their kids to Sylvan. That’s the fun of being around so long with it.”

Hiduke has a partnership with the Lee County School District, where they teach their reading programs at four elementary schools after school, and they have a contract to help homeless children.
