TOWSON, MD  Sylvan Learning, the leading provider of personalized supplemental and enrichment education, has announced an unprecedented promotion ahead of the 2024-25 school year: Students who are enrolled during August will receive 50% off the cost of their first month at Sylvan. This is the deepest discount Sylvan has ever offered, and it comes at a critical time for students and parents alike.

“Grade inflation continues to be a growing concern for us. Many parents think that their kids are doing better than they actually are because standards have consistently shifted post-pandemic,” said Amy Przywara, chief marketing officer. “There’s no blame here, but if students do not get an objective evaluation of where they stand and begin to receive the support they need, they’ll likely run into even bigger problems later on. We don’t want families to be taken by surprise like this, and if we can make it even easier for parents to consider getting that extra support, we’re happy to.”

Przywara noted that 12th graders in 2024 are currently performing at the level that 9th graders were in 2019 — just one measure that represents how far behind some students really are. Still, because parents often do not have a clear outline of where their child’s abilities should be, the severity of learning loss is not widely understood.

Sylvan’s comprehensive assessment can identify gaps in knowledge and skills, offering parents and teachers clarity on where a student really stands, and its personalized learning programs help students to catch up and get ahead, preventing learning gaps from widening any further.

For students who enroll between August 1st and 31st, the first month of support will be discounted, allowing them to try the program and experience what Sylvan is really about firsthand. While most students will require multiple months of enrollment to catch up and reach their academic goals, a lower-stakes first month opens Sylvan’s doors to even more students.

“This is a great time for families to come try Sylvan, see where their child is and make a plan from there,” Przywara said. “Parents may not think that their child is behind or [realize] that there may be a problem because they are performing at the same level as their classmates, but there probably is. We don’t want to lower expectations for our children just because everyone has fallen behind. We want them to be able to confidently do the school work, graduate from college and become productive in the workforce. Achieving this starts with identifying the issues and making a plan.”

Nationally, Sylvan Learning is offering 50% off the first month’s enrollment for students who enroll in the month of August. Some centers have extended the enrollment period to include early September as school sessions officially begin. Some restrictions apply; see your local center for details.
