TWO MEN AND A TRUCK®, the largest moving franchisor in the U.S. with more than 390 units and 3,000 trucks in operation, has long stood out as a leader in its segment. But in recent years, the brand has introduced a number of critical enhancements that have all but secured TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s position as one of the best investments in franchising. Chief among those enhancements is the brand’s range of storage options, which diversify revenue streams and secure year-round business opportunities for franchisees.

“Storage has enabled us to become a one-stop-shop for clients,” said Bryan Feldman, a multi-unit TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee with territories throughout South Carolina. “When you move a client to an off-site storage facility, no matter how well the move went, you run the risk of them finding a new moving company for the next leg of the move, but we’re able to keep it all in-house, ensuring that we retain the business.”

Kyle Norcutt, another multi-unit TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisee with territories in Michigan, Indiana, Colorado, Utah and Washington, says storage is not only a natural fit from a consumer perspective, it also maximizes the value of each franchisee’s facilities.

“You don’t need much office space to run the business, but you do need a lot of parking for the trucks,” he said. “Most lots of the appropriate size come with some kind of building, and it’s not a difficult task to convert that building into storage space.”

To leverage any facilities a franchisee may have, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK offers a range of storage options, including both on-site and off-site, vaulted and portable.

Vaulted storage offers franchisees the most revenue per square footage, allowing them to stack storage units upwards. “Every layer of vaults essentially doubles your square footage,” Feldman said. But every mode offers distinct advantages. Norcutt notes that portable storage has proven a major draw for customers. “We can bring containers out to their site and load them up, or they can load them themselves, so they like the flexibility,” he said.

Norcutt says storage has opened his business up to a larger pool of customers since people frequently require storage services even when they aren’t moving.

“We have clients who are remodeling their kitchens or just need to clear out their basement but don’t want to throw everything away,” he said. “By offering storage, we are tapping into a customer base we would not have reached through moving alone.”

Crucially, storage also offers TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees year-round consistency in their revenue streams. Moving is a dependable, recession-resistant business, but it is seasonal, with business spiking in the warmer months. Storage does not see the same seasonal peaks and valleys, Norcutt says.

“Moving never really has slow months, because it’s a service people always need, but it certainly has extra busy months, typically in the summer. Which is great, but it can complicate your projects for the year. Storage is a great way to even that out and ensure a robust revenue stream throughout the year,” he said.

As TWO MEN AND A TRUCK franchisees across the country turn to storage to grow their businesses, Randy Shacka, the brand’s president, says it’s just one of the ways TWO MEN AND A TRUCK is finding lucrative new income opportunities for its network of franchisees.

“We’ve been a leader in this industry for nearly four decades, and we didn’t achieve that longevity by doing one thing right, congratulating ourselves and then relaxing; we are always looking forward,” he said. “We are always thinking about how we can offer more and better services for our customers and a stronger, more profitable business for our franchisees. Storage along with our junk removal services are a great example of that philosophy in action, and we can’t wait to roll out new innovations in the years to come.

The initial investment for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK ranges from $100,000 to $595,000. To learn more about franchising opportunities with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, visit www.franchise.twomenandatruck.com.
