Navy Veteran Opens Ninja Gym in Stafford, Virginia, To Serve Fellow Military Families
Dan Umpa’s USA Ninja Challenge franchise creates space for children of service members to explore fitness challenges similar to what they see their parents do in a kid-friendly environment.
STAFFORD, VA – Dan Umpa, the owner of USA Ninja Challenge of Stafford, served his country for a decade as a helicopter pilot in the Navy, but his service didn’t stop there. After some time spent in the corporate world, he began considering opening his own business. When he discovered USA Ninja Challenge, he knew it was the perfect fit.
“I had looked into opening a gym. When the pandemic hit, that industry was decimated,” he said. “Later, I looked into opening a playspace for kids. I have two young kids, so I could see the demand there. When I found USA Ninja Challenge, it was the perfect blend. I love the concept and I’m excited to grow in the Stafford area to offer a service and environment that will resonate with the dense population of military families in the area.”
Because there is a Marine base nearby, the children in the community often see their family members completing physical challenges as a part of their training or regimen.
“A lot of these kids see their moms and dads doing these obstacle courses and think it’s so cool,” said Upma. “USA Ninja Challenge is an outlet for them to do something similar in a safe and controlled environment. As a veteran myself, I’m proud to know that I’m helping other service members with meaningful opportunities for their kids”
USA Ninja Challenge is a kid’s Ninja gym that uses a gradual training program to guide kids through six skill levels as they work to master 21 skill categories. From climbing and swinging to balance and floor skills, the programs encourage kids to find joy in movement, developing their skills while becoming more resilient and confident as they overcome obstacles, both mental and physical, one at a time.
