When Buffalo Wings & Rings decided to be included in the hit CBS series “Undercover Boss” on December 20, 2015, the potential for new franchise development inquiries just after the show’s premiere was on their minds. Today, the brand is still getting a healthy amount of interest from the show, and there are no signs of stopping in the year to come.

“Undercover Boss” takes disguised executives from different brands and covertly sends them to some of their company’s locations to experience firsthand the day-to-day life of regular employees. Buffalo Wings & Rings CEO Nader Masadeh visited three stores during the episode, witnessing what's happening at the store-level of the company. The Buffalo Wings & Ring episode of the long-running CBS show was slotted as the season premiere of its seventh season and it was a rousing success — the episode drew in 7.51 million viewers.

According to Philip Schram, chief development officer for Buffalo Wings & Rings, the brand received more than 100 franchise applications on the night of the episode’s premiere. Schram went on to say they have still received a lot of franchise inquiries since the episode ran, including 30 applications through the beginning of this year.

“We had a lot of inquiries and applications come in during the night the show premiered, but we still have gotten a good amount of applications since then,” Schram said. “We are back to normal activity and the applications we are receiving now are coming through the usual channels.

Schram went on to say that he thinks people will still be talking about the brand’s appearance on the show next year. He believes that when the episode goes into syndication, 2017 should bring in a whole new crop of interested entrepreneurs.

“By going through syndication, each time it will be shown on TV, we will get a burst of applications,” Schram believes. “We feel that some of these applications will lead to some franchise agreements.”

Buffalo Wings & Rings is growing thanks to its appearance on “Undercover Boss” and investing in a franchise is affordable for investors. Buffalo Wings & Rings estimates that the minimum investment for a franchise should range from $970,000 to $1.5 million, based on a leased space of 5,000 to 6,000 square feet.
