Despite Ongoing AI Growth, HomeTeam’s Human-To-Human Model Remains Strong

While artificial intelligence is penetrating many industries, the home inspection franchise’s person-first model means it will only be strengthened, never replaced, by technological development.

HomeTeam Inspection Service, the 200-plus-unit home inspection franchise, has built its brand on a foundation of consistent innovation, working to drive the home inspection industry forward and provide a better experience for buyers, real estate agents and home inspectors whenever possible. Often, this effort comes to life in the form of technological advancements, but HomeTeam remains committed to intentional innovation, only embracing new technologies when they truly make sense for the long-term vision. Currently, as artificial intelligence (AI) overtakes many industries, HomeTeam is emphasizing the importance of the human aspect of a home inspection.

“We’ve been researching AI in depth as it relates to home inspections and home services, but generally, AI is not correct 100% of the time. It’s actually accurate far less often than people hope it would be,” said Director of Business Development Matt Cook. “Given that we work in an environment where people are actually making the biggest purchase of their life, there are aspects of AI that we can use, but there is absolutely no way that AI can replace having a critical thinker on site providing great customer service.”

Cook explained that generative AI can help with some aspects of the home inspection process, like writing a comprehensive report, but it cannot calm the nerves of a worry-riddled homebuyer.

“HomeTeam inspectors provide non-alarmist, educational feedback to prospective buyers. You can’t replace that with technology,” Cook said. “You can utilize tools and technology to better your processes, quality or efficiency, but at the end of the day, you’re always going to need that person to lead the technology and build trust through human to human connection.”

HomeTeam’s current technology stack supports this ideology directly. With things like easy online scheduling, a mobile software that enables inspectors to make real-time notes throughout the inspection, and fast digital report delivery that allows buyers and agents access to the inspection report with a quick turnaround, HomeTeam lets technology handle some of the tasks and processes that can reasonably be automated, freeing up more time for the inspectors to focus on the things that only they can do, and providing buyers and agents with a more streamlined experience.

For many franchisees, this is a key motivator to invest in the HomeTeam franchise model. No matter how advanced technology gets, the human interaction and consideration that makes HomeTeam what it is will never be outsourced.

“HomeTeam is always on the forefront of technology and research in the industry,” Cook said. “We’re constantly looking for areas of opportunity and developing the next generation of systems and software, but no matter how much we build on our systems and tools, our inspectors — who truly care about providing great inspections in their community — will always be the heart of our business.”
