“I worked in the air department, and she worked in the engineering department — two completely opposite levels of the ship,” Juan Carlos Iraola explained. “If you’ve ever been in an aircraft carrier, you’re talking about 5,000–7,000 people on board at any given time!”

When discussing his journey with HomeTeam Inspection Service, Carlos Iraola notes just how important his wife, Cynthia, is to the story. In 2022, the two work together to complete inspections, and Juan says his 22-year-old son is involved as well. It’s truly a family affair.

After meeting in Dubai in the “sandbox” — the designated leisure space within the protections of the naval base — and dancing the night away, Juan and Cynthia were connected.

“From that day on, we’ve been inseparable,” Juan said. “We’ve literally been together since that day.”

After Juan was medically retired, he began coaching youth soccer. Though he loved it, he felt something was missing. He had always wanted to own a business, so he chose to submit his resume to a hiring website.

A franchise broker introduced Juan to HomeTeam, and it felt like a perfect fit.

“My wife had always loved real estate, but we thought it was really hard — you have to be licensed and all of that,” he said. “Then we learned of HomeTeam, and it was real estate adjacent without being real estate.”

Juan explained that they do standard home inspections in the residential space more than anything else, and his fluency in Spanish allows them to service a wider variety of residents in their territory.

After almost two years, he says the family is focused on growing the existing territory while Juan and Cynthia keep their eyes on the bigger picture. If their son ever expresses an interest in owning his own HomeTeam, Juan says he will be able to support that dream and pass on a stable, well-established business.

In the coming years, Juan says he’s focusing on streamlining the business even further so it can grow successfully.

“By this time next year, I would like to have two teams,” he said. “So my first goal is to get off of inspections — get off the inspection and have two teams that actually go and do the work for us.”

Once this is established, he’ll have more time to devote to business development. With strong teams in the field, Juan and Cynthia can focus on the internal aspects of the business, managing the moving parts and focusing on the higher-level view.

“In five years, I want to be where the number one HomeTeam is from a business standpoint!” he added. “The number one franchise in the HomeTeam system — I love those guys. That’s where I want to be, and we’ll make it happen.”

The initial investment range to open a HomeTeam Inspection franchise is $50,100 to $76,800. For more information, visit
