We were both engineers. We became friends in Milan around 1996, but then life took us on two different paths,” Taurisano explained. “A few years ago, Mik and I reconnected, and we decided to start the business together. We both had backgrounds in engineering and construction, so home inspections came to us naturally.”During their time apart, Taurisano moved to America where he earned his Master’s Degree from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and worked in Corporate America for several years before starting his own real estate company. He eventually purchased and redeveloped multifamily properties and started a brokerage business before engaging with Hometeam.Pugliese, after graduation from Politecnico of Milano, spent his entire career being an entrepreneur, never tired of facing new challenges: he run his own businesses first in Italy and then in Dominican Republic, before deciding, together with his wife Laura, to turn his life again and move to the US.The two reconnected during COVID-19 and began discussing entrepreneurship — specifically in a field that would align with their shared professional histories. Their first territory in southern Boston began operations in December of 2020.“It was definitely a challenge to open our business during the height of the pandemic,” Taurisano explained. “But when there is a problem, there is always an opportunity. We realized pretty quickly that the HomeTeam model allowed us to navigate and ride out the crisis. There are many different rules among states, and most home inspection companies are just one guy, maybe someone who retired from the construction industry. And we have taken the opportunity to make this business more rigorous and more predictable.”The pair also shares the notion that, in addition to the scalability and overall success of the model, their role in the community is just as meaningful.“The most exciting part has been the realization that this profession is not just fun — clearly, we are happy doing it, but we also help people,” Pugliese explained. “In many cases, we are the only neutral party in a real estate transaction. We have no vested interest, and we really help people to feel comfortable and have peace of mind with the biggest investment of their lives. We’ve seen how we’re helpful to the community, and that is a very important part of our satisfaction with the business.”Moving forward, the pair says they plan to take full advantage of the scalability of the HomeTeam model. As they grow organically with the company, they will also be building wealth to support their families and kids in the future.“We plan to continue very carefully, very methodically, but we’re looking at expansion for sure,” Taurisano said.The initial investment range to open a HomeTeam Inspection franchise is $50,100 to $76,800.
