Idea Lab Kids' Pearland Location Strives to Foster a Green Mindset in Children
In honor of Earth Day, the Pearland location sheds light on its commitment to teaching children about environmental awareness through its STEAM Programs.
IDEA Lab Kids, a childhood education franchise with a cutting-edge curriculum and proven business model, believes in creating future leaders, innovators and environmentally-conscious minds.
The brand’s dedication to being a sustainable company is evident in its endeavors to use recycled materials in its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) programs. And in Pearland, Texas, IDEA Lab Kids is hoping to bring their green mindset to the masses with a public Earth Day Workshop on April 22nd.
How the Pearland Campus Fosters a Green Mindset
“This is an exploratory event where kids come and build toys out of things that they would typically throw away (crayons, cardboard, etc.), repurposing them to make something fun and creative,” said Anju Ray, the program director for IDEA Lab Kids in Pearland.
The upcoming Earth Day event, however, is not the Pearland location’s first effort to encourage environmental awareness in their local community. According to Ray, they also host a yearly citywide “Pearland Clean and Green” event, where IDEA Lab Kids students can bring their parents to help clean up trash in the city.
But their dedication to going green doesn’t stop there. The Pearland campus, Ray says, has very specific instructions about paper towel usage, running water and rewashing paint bowls. For example, the campus asks all of its employees and students to shake their hands after washing them so they use fewer paper towels.
Why IDEA Lab Kids Is Committed to Being Green
Such environmentally-conscious campus standards stem from the brand’s curriculums, which are designed by IDEA Lab Kids’ research and development team, who are dedicated to creating programs that repurpose waste and teach children to make mindful choices.
Many projects in the brand’s STEAM programs, for example, require items children can easily find in their own house or their IDEA Lab Kids campus, so they don’t have to buy extra materials. The programs also focus on materials that can be reused to minimize waste.
“We are proud to be educating young kids not only in STEAM, but also in the importance of the environment,” said Devina Bhojwani, president and co-owner of IDEA Lab Kids. “Our research and development team works tirelessly to ensure that they use recycled materials in experiments whenever possible, and it’s our goal to be as environmentally friendly as possible.”
The brand believes that incorporating these green choices into children’s daily lives will eventually make those choices habitual, giving children the tools and knowledge they need to continue making mindful choices as they age.
These green choices extend beyond Earth Day, too. In all of IDEA Lab Kids’ programs, including summer camps, the brand works to ensure that it’s continuing to foster an environmentally friendly curriculum for its students. And with the brand having recently had its best month ever in terms of summer camp sign ups with a 93.5% increase in March over February, the initiative is going to reach more students and families than ever before.
Why IDEA Lab Kids Seeks to Foster a Green Mindset in Future STEAM Professionals
IDEA Lab Kids is a forward-thinking brand. At its core, the brand seeks to provide educational opportunities for aspiring young girls and boys who wish to explore engineering and other STEAM disciplines. And according to Ray, there has never been a more crucial time to foster a green mindset in the STEAM field.
“A lot of STEAM professionals take resources from the earth when they could be repurposing, reusing and reducing materials,” Ray said. “If we give future STEAM professionals a mindset to conserve the earth, they will more than likely grow up thinking in green terms and approach their career in that way, too.”
Most STEAM professionals buy new supplies every time they perform a new experiment, Ray said. But IDEA Lab Kids is dedicated to teaching children that there might be more than one way of doing things, showing them how to use and reuse what is already available to them.
Ray hopes that being green will become a way of life for all IDEA Lab Kids students, who will go on to inspire other leaders, innovators and critical thinkers to “go green.”
The startup costs for an IDEA Lab Kids franchise range from $98,100 to $271,000. The franchise fee is $35,500. To learn more about franchising with IDEA Lab Kids, visit https://www.franchise.idealabkids.com.
