Lyricos Learning, LLC Launches STEAM on Demand Education Technology Platform

Lyricos Learning LLC, a Houston-based education company, recently launched its STEAM on Demand program, a video streaming platform that gives after school providers, including public schools, private schools and homeschooling programs, everything they need to offer K-6 enrichment classes — without requiring any specialized teaching experience. The platform offers not just STEAM, which is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, but also coding, social and emotional learning, entrepreneurship and more.

Cynthia Tusan, founder of Lyricos Learning and creator of the interactive video streaming concept, STEAM on Demand, has led this effort from both an investment and design standpoint based on her passion for making STEAM lessons available to all children in their after school programs. She said, “What has been important to me is the interactive nature of what we are building, the collaborative nature of the activities we offer, the diversity of our content and the scalability of the technology. We are not just preparing kids for careers in the future, we are democratizing access to the diversity of skills needed to be leaders and innovators.“ 

The STEAM on Demand content guides both group and personalized learning through project-based STEAM activities as well as through individualized learning. Class facilitators who use STEAM on Demand are not required to have STEAM-based teaching experience because the interactive videos provide the explanation of elevated concepts while leading the facilitator and students together through discussions, activities and quizzes.

“We are using 21st-century technology to improve the student and teacher experience and outcome,” said Mabast Ahmad, Lyricos Learning’s technology applications engineer. “Our interactive videos are helpful for teachers and staff who are not experts in the field, and the platform where they reside has the familiar look and feel of streaming services while also serving as a great planning tool.” STEAM on Demand runs seamlessly on all different devices, including iPads, mobile phones, computers and TVs.

As someone who has taught in after school programs, STEAM on Demand Product Manager Fernando Moguel believes the program adds an essential element to the classroom. “Having a visual element, especially with hands-on activities, is almost a necessity,” he said. “It’s a huge teaching and learning tool.”

Devina Bhojwani, president and investor in Lyricos Learning, says the program was created with both the student and teacher in mind. “Our goal is to inspire, inform and guide an entire classroom in a shared, hands-on experience. We offer an innovative solution to do this while supporting the teacher in a way that frees them to be more efficient and engaged in the classroom. We are also building important planning and feedback tools for the teacher that will ensure continuous feedback and growth,” she said. 

STEAM on Demand is being deployed in two public after-school programs, one in California and one in Maryland. After a series of focus groups, a major third party after school provider in Texas is using the platform in their summer program. 

“We are already bringing STEAM on Demand to hundreds of kids in less than a year, and soon it will be thousands as we keep creating content and building a path to close the gap in STEAM Education,” added Fernando Martinez, Lyricos Leaning’s Marketing Manager.
