You Name It, Minuteman Press Can Print It: How the International Franchise Has Been Meeting the Mailing Needs of Business Professionals for Over 50 Years
Minuteman Press locations are full-service design, print and marketing centers serving the entire business community from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.
Since its founding in 1973, the mission of Minuteman Press has been to disrupt the printing industry and tap into a massive need for businesses of all sizes. By providing the marketing tools and services that businesses everywhere need for their day-to-day operations, the brand has made a difference in the communities they serve across five countries - the USA, Canada, the UK, South Africa, and Australia.
In 2023, Minuteman Press is celebrating 50 years in business and over 45 years of franchising. Today, their franchise locations are able to print on virtually anything you can put a name, image or logo on.
“When Minuteman Press was founded, what was missing was the idea of a full-service, one-stop print center that could get jobs done in a fast and efficient manner,” said Nick Titus, President of Minuteman Press International. “While we have grown tremendously since our humble beginnings, we are still providing our clients with one-stop solutions to meet all of their printing and marketing needs.”
Print and communications is an essential industry, and Minuteman Press franchises are committed to supporting the marketing needs of their local businesses.
“Everywhere I look I see print opportunities and I know I can help my clients promote their businesses,” said Diana Renollet, who has owned her Minuteman Press franchise in East Indianapolis, Indiana, since June of 2020. “From business cards and menus to billboards and street signs, whether indoors or outdoors, every letter or image you see is created digitally and printed. I cannot help but get excited when I talk about this industry and the many ways we are able to promote your business through print.”
What Minuteman Press Brings to the Market
Minuteman Press is a leader in the printing and marketing industries, meeting the design, printing, promotional, marketing and mailing needs of today’s business professionals. The brand fills the void for all things print for local businesses of all sizes, non-profits, municipalities, community groups and other organizations.
When Nick’s grandfather Roy Titus was running a company called Parent’s Magazine, he noticed that the printers he worked with could be doing things better and that there was still a lot of potential in the industry. Tapping into that potential, Roy’s son Bob Titus and Bob’s childhood friends Jim Galasso and Dave Scadin ran the first Minuteman Press center in Plainview, Long Island, New York, in 1973.
“The two biggest things we did to really get the shop going strong were marketing to the customers—going to them and not waiting for them to come to us—and adding pickup and delivery options at a time where others just weren’t doing that,” said Bob. “My dad always told us to never say no to the customer. No matter what the customer wants, get it for them.”
In 1974, the second location opened in Farmingdale, New York, which became the prototype Minuteman Press franchise when the company started franchising in 1975. Over the past 50 years, products and capabilities have expanded and Minuteman Press has continued to be at the forefront of the printing industry as leaders and innovators.
Meeting the Marketing Needs of All Local Businesses
All businesses—regardless of their size or industry and whether they're startups, long-established companies, government groups or nonprofits—need and use printed media on a daily basis. And in today's world of cluttered and unproven advertising, the search for cost-effective, streamlined approaches are more important than ever before.
“Promotional products are great ways to advertise,” said Wes Froebel, owner of Minuteman Press locations in Buffalo and Williamsville, New York. “They are often handed out at trade shows and community events. They can also be used as gifts to clients or employees. Popular items with my clients include pens, sticky note pads, drinkware, reusable grocery bags, and mouse pads.”
Full-service Minuteman Press centers provide everything from signs and posters, to floor and window decals, banners and booth displays for local events, custom branded apparel, promotional items, business cards, branded packaging, vehicle wraps and more.
“One of the great things about our business is the wide variety of products and services that we offer,” said Nick. “Because of the versatility of our industry, we are able to meet the need for high-demand items that businesses need and use to operate and grow. And as times change, we are able to quickly adapt and add new products and services.”
In addition to the aforementioned items, Minuteman Press also understands how crucial direct mail campaigns have become over the past several years for brands to get the word out about their products and services, special offers and other updates.
When it comes to reaching a precise group or a specific territory, Minuteman has the data resources to handle it. Using Variable Data, the brand can customize a direct mail piece specifically to individual customers. If a business already has a direct mailing list, the company is able to take that list and incorporate it into a mailing piece. By utilizing USPS-approved software, Minuteman Press can more cost-effectively mail materials while working with clients to customize the mailing list based on a target audience.
Clients can step into their local center for a free consultation on how Minuteman Press can fulfill their custom direct mail marketing and advertising needs. In doing so, customers will not only be greeted warmly and given expert advice, but they will also have the advantage of capitalizing on the insight gained by serving the very same community they wish to target.
Adapting With the Times
One of the most unique parts about the Minuteman Press system is the fact that as times have changed, so has the brand. While staying true to the core principles of high quality and service that Roy Titus strongly believed were the keys to success, the company has evolved and emerged as the world’s #1 printing, marketing and business services provider.
“We embraced the digital age and have taken full advantage of the new technology and resources that are made available to us by adding a vast array of new products and services that help our franchisees continue to grow their businesses,” said Nick.
As a result, every Minuteman Press franchise is able to partner with local businesses to meet all of their design, print and marketing needs. This includes digital marketing campaigns, graphic and web design services, integrating print and online strategies—and much more.
These capabilities allow Minuteman Press to provide any business or organization with a marketing strategy that will increase brand awareness, drive website traffic and create all-around favorable outcomes.
“We have developed a unique position in the market by providing excellent quality and service to local business owners,” said Nick. “Since the beginning, when the first Minuteman Press location was opened in Plainview, New York, in 1973, we have continued to innovate by adding products and services and refining our franchise system to benefit our owners.”
The total initial investment necessary to start a Minuteman Press franchise ranges from $100,000–$150,000. Financing options are available. For more information on franchising with Minuteman Press, visit minutemanpressfranchise.com.
