Mansi Garg is a multi-unit <a href="https://sylvanfranchise.com/?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=how-to-succeed-as-a-multi-unit-franchisee-mansi-garg-sylvan-learning-2716014" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Sylvan Learning</a> franchise owner based in Washington State. Garg and her husband, who are originally from Canada, decided to leave the corporate world and open their own business in 2014. Although <a href="https://1851franchise.com/sylvanlearning">Sylvan Learning</a> was sold out in her area, she was committed to joining the brand and soon heard about an opportunity to become a multi-unit owner in Washington. She didn’t hesitate — moving her family across the border and purchasing eight existing Sylvan Learning centers from a retiring franchisee. Today, she has continued to expand her portfolio and currently operates nine locations in total.&nbsp;So, what is the secret to Garg’s <a href="https://1851franchise.com/the-pros-and-cons-of-multi-unit-franchising-2090">multi-unit success</a>? She says it is all about creating a great team. “Make sure your employees feel like they are a part of the team and receive constant communication and coaching,” she said. “They need to know that you will always be there for them if they need you.”If franchisees are looking to grow their portfolio but are worried about taking the first step, Garg says it takes confidence and determination. “It can be nerve-wracking to grow into <a href="https://1851franchise.com/keys-to-successfully-growing-from-one-unit-to-multiple-units-4918">multi-unit ownership</a>, but it is important to believe in yourself and follow your aspirations,” she said. “Also, don’t worry about the time — you will need to put in the long hours to set up the team initially, but afterward it will become easier and less time-consuming. The first step is always the hardest, but the rest will fall into place.”&nbsp;Before signing on the dotted line, franchisees also need to do their <a href="https://1851franchise.com/10-tips-for-performing-franchise-due-diligence-2191">due diligence</a> if they hope to find the right opportunity.&nbsp;“As a franchisee, you are going to be representing the brand, so you need to make sure you are comfortable with that idea,” said Garg. “I was able to go and look at different Sylvan Learning centers because they were around in my community. I spoke with the corporate team and other franchisees and that was very helpful. Don’t be afraid to go ask questions, reach out to the corporate team or just visit as a customer. Call friends and family and see what they have to say. It is important to take those steps before signing on with the brand.”If a franchisor is looking to <a href="https://1851franchise.com/how-to-hook-multi-unit-franchisees-1460">find passionate multi-unit owners</a> like Garg, she says they need to focus on more than just selling franchises.&nbsp;“Franchisors need to be truthful and honest about the opportunity,” she said. “What can you do as a franchisor, what makes you different, what can you bring to the table?
