Here’s what he had to say:1851 Franchise: Frame your personal story for us. What do you want us to know?Joe Lovvorn: I started my journey in 2004, building a Two Men and a Truck franchise serving Auburn and Montgomery, Alabama, all while working full-time as a firefighter. It wasn’t easy balancing long shifts at the fire station with the demands of starting a business, but I was determined to create something of my own and serve my community in a different way.As a graduate of Auburn University, I carried with me the values of hard work, integrity and perseverance. Those values became the foundation of my business. What started as a small operation grew through dedication, long hours and a commitment to treating every customer with care and respect.Over time, the business became more than just a job. It became a reflection of my passion for helping people through major life transitions. Whether responding to emergencies as a firefighter or helping families move into new homes, my focus has always been the same: show up, work hard and make a difference.1851: What did you do before franchising, and how did you decide franchising made sense for you?Lovvorn: Before stepping into business ownership, I served as a firefighter in the Auburn community. That experience shaped who I am, teaching me discipline, teamwork and the importance of showing up for people on some of the most important days of their lives. It also gave me a deep connection to the communities I was serving, which later became the foundation of my business.When I started exploring business opportunities, franchising made sense for me for a few key reasons. First, it provided a proven system. As a firefighter, I was used to operating within structured processes where training, consistency and accountability mattered, and franchising offered that same kind of framework.Second, brand recognition was important. Partnering with an established name like TWO MEN AND A TRUCK gave me immediate credibility in the Auburn and Montgomery markets. Instead of spending years building trust from scratch, I could focus on delivering great service from day one.Finally, support and community played a big role. Just like the fire service, franchising isn’t something you do alone. There’s a network of other owners, training resources and ongoing guidance. That team environment felt familiar to me and it set me up for long-term success.1851: What was your perception of franchising prior to becoming a franchisee, and what do you want people to know about franchising now that you are in it?Lovvorn: Before becoming a franchisee, my perception of franchising was a bit skeptical. I assumed it meant less independence and more restrictions. I wondered if I’d really be building something of my own or just following someone else’s rules.But once I stepped into it with TWO MEN AND A TRUCK, my perspective completely changed.What I realized is that franchising doesn’t limit you. It actually sets you up to succeed. The systems, training and brand recognition aren’t there to hold you back; they’re there to give you a strong foundation so you can focus on what really matters: building your team, serving your customers and growing your business.Now, being in it, what I want people to understand is this: franchising is still entrepreneurship. You’re still leading people, making decisions and putting your name and reputation on the line every single day. The difference is, you’re not doing it alone. You have a proven playbook and a network behind you.1851: What made you pick this brand? What excites you most about this company?Lovvorn: I chose the TWO MEN AND A JUNK TRUCK brand because of my 20-plus-year relationship with the TWO MEN AND A TRUCK brand. It’s a proven brand that I’ve enjoyed working with, and I look forward to building the junk removal side of the business alongside it.I’m excited about bringing a new opportunity to the Auburn and Montgomery area and continuing to serve customers in additional ways.1851: What do you hope to achieve with your business? What are your plans for growth?Lovvorn: I hope to build a business that lasts in the community and makes a big impact. I want this company to be a place employees are proud to be a part of. I also want our customers to know that we’re going to deliver consistent service and a great experience each and every time.As for growth, first it’s about continuing to strengthen what we’ve already built in the Auburn and Montgomery markets. That means developing better leaders, improving systems and making sure our foundation is solid. Growth only works if what you’re building on is strong.Second, we want to continue expanding our services. There’s a lot of opportunity beyond traditional moving: junk removal, logistics and other related services that meet customers where they are. If someone trusts us in one area, we want to be able to serve them in others as well.1851: What advice do you have for other people thinking about becoming franchise owners?Lovvorn:&nbsp;The brand, the systems and the support are all valuable, but at the end of the day, it still comes down to execution. You have to be willing to work, to lead and to take full ownership of the outcome.A franchise can be an incredible opportunity if you approach it the right way. Use the systems, lean on the support, but don’t rely on them to carry you. The owners who succeed are the ones who take what’s given to them and build something even stronger on top of it.
