The world’s largest restaurant chain says that it’s revamping its brand.

As Subway prepares for international growth, the brand is planning to close hundreds of locations across the U.S. According to a recent article by CNBC, the sandwich franchise is going to close about 500 restaurants across the country. This news comes after Subway closed 800 stores in 2017.
Despite these upcoming closures, Subway says that it’s revitalizing its brand. The chain rolled out a new store design last year, and it’s focusing more on a new loyalty program to draw more customers.
In an email interview with CNBC, a Subway spokesperson said, “Looking out over the next decade, we anticipate having a slightly smaller, but more profitable footprint in North America and a significantly larger footprint in the rest of the world. Subway restaurants are 100 percent franchisee owned and operated, and our commitment to the franchisees is to work with them to make each restaurant more successful.”
