For returning service men and women, getting back into the workforce and being able to showcase the leadership and technical skills developed over his or her military careers can be difficult. Franchising offers opportunities for veterans to be in leadership positions by owning their own businesses as well as having a support system of a franchise behind them. There are a number of online resources to help veterans find a franchise that fits with them, and help them find the business and financial support needed to be successful. VetFran® VetFran® is part of the International Franchising Association (IFA). It is a program to help returning service men and women find available franchising opportunities. In addition to finding franchise opportunities, VetFran helps veterans through training, financial assistance and industry support and their VetFran toolkit. The toolkit includes a Franchising 101 online course, a finance assessment, workbook for prospective franchise owners and partner links. The program also offers a mentoring network for veterans. VetFran has more than 580 franchise systems that offer financial incentives and mentoring for potential veteran franchisees. VetFran also works with the White House Joining Forces Initiative, VFW, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Small Business Administration, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and many others. U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is a great jumping off point for service men and women who are looking to get into the workforce and find opportunities and success. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs offers resources for Veterans and their family members to find success with the federal government as well as the private sector. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also works with the IFA’s VetFran program. VetJobs VetJobs is an online resource for military men and women and military family members to find and access job listings and franchise opportunities. VetJobs is operated by a management team to assist companies, recruiting firms and hiring authorities to successfully reach the military market. They help provide the necessary tools to make job searching easy and finding positions and franchise opportunities to fit with the technical and leadership training many service men and women have. Veteran Franchises Veteran Franchises connects veterans with franchise opportunities that are looking for motivated and disciplines individuals to own their own business, as the program has a list of available franchises well suited for veterans.
