Tisha Skinner, Smoothie King Franchisee, is opening Smoothie King in Terminal D of BWI airport in late-October. This is among a large surge of eateries coming to the airport including Steak 'n' Sheak and Brix & Vine.
"We like to fit into everyone's daily routine. The airport's perfect because it's 100 percent commuters," Skinner told the Baltimore Sun reporter.
In addition to the Skinner, the brand has nine other franchisees who are working to open six or seven new openings. Christine Elam, Smoothie King's Franchise Development Manager told the Baltimore Sun that the chain is looking at more nontraditional locations like airports, malls, universities and hospitals.
Skinner's first Smoothie King was opened in Atlanta, but closed due to the recession. She was able to bounce back and find success in her Columbia location that was opened in 2012. She plans to open five additional locations in Baltimore and eyeing surrounding areas as well.
"I'm very particular about growing. I've been in the system a long time, I've seen franchisees come and go," Skinner told the Baltimore Sun reporter.
