Since its founding in 1997, Children’s Lighthouse has grown from a single school in Grand Prairie, Texas, into a nationally recognized early education franchise. Inspired by a family trip and the symbolism of lighthouses guiding people to safety, the brand was launched by two brothers to fill a gap they saw in quality childcare. Under the leadership of President Michael Brown, the brand has grown to nearly 30 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and operates in 10 states nationwide.
“My dad and uncle founded the company in 1997 and were heavily focused on family values, and we still have that mentality,” Brown told The Business Press in a recent interview. “Ultimately, parents and children feel that.”
Positioning itself as an early learning school rather than a day care, Children’s Lighthouse offers programs for children ages six weeks to 12 years, backed by a proprietary curriculum and Cognia accreditation. The brand focuses on academic excellence alongside building character and emotional development, helping children become good citizens from an early age.
In 2024, Children’s Lighthouse achieved an 8% systemwide revenue increase, signed eight new franchise agreements and expanded into new markets, including its first Virginia location. The franchise aims to open up to 15 new schools and grow franchise revenue by 10% this year. It also plans to enter markets like Nashville and Knoxville. Despite the rapid growth, the company remains grounded in its founding value of purpose-driven education.
