At Junk Junk Baby!, an emerging franchise that serves the community when they need items discarded, being charitable is critical to the brand’s mission. The franchise is designed around helping people in need and tries to maintain that spirit through multiple avenues in addition to its junk hauling services. Now, as the brand aims to expand nationwide, Junk Junk Baby! is looking for prospective franchisees who are equally passionate about giving back to the communities they serve.
The company, which works on all sorts of residential cleanouts, hoarding relief, estate sales, downsizing projects, transitions to senior centers and more, is committing to donating the majority of the items collected while on the job.
It’s all part of the company’s goal to “do good in the neighborhood,” explained Eric Myers, Junk Junk Baby! founder and CEO. “I liken it to being part Santa, part Robin Hood.”
Often, the things they are hired to remove from a property aren’t “junk” at all; sometimes, they are brand new items with tags, and the brand often finds other things like furniture, appliances and products that have been gently used and are in great condition to find a second loving home.
“We have partnerships with various assisted living homes and with the Housing Authority. Some people going into new units are in a tough spot and don't have anything,” Myers said. “We take the nice stuff we get from other jobs and can help furnish with a new bed, couch, table, cutlery, etc. It makes us feel really good inside to help people in need. We get to make a living but also touch people in ways others can't.”
The brand also broadcasts its willingness to help on its website, with a banner stating, “If you or someone you know needs something and are not in a position to buy it, please let us know. We will do our best to get it to you...no questions asked.”
If Junk Junk Baby! can’t find a suitable person or family to gift an item to, the brand will donate it at the Salvation Army or leave it on the curb outside its office for a lucky passerby to take.
The appreciation from those who receive items from Junk Junk Baby! is what makes the charitable efforts worth it, Myers said. He detailed how a fire locally displaced more than a dozen families, leaving them homeless and without belongings. The franchise furnished those families’ temporary housing units and provided them with essential items after they lost everything.
“It’s emotional. They will cry; we will cry,” said Myers. It’s amazing to know what we did makes such a big difference in somebody's life. It's a privilege to be able to give back to people in the community, and it makes us feel like we're doing something worthwhile.”
Displaying a philanthropic spirit has also brought good karma to the business, with many partnerships in the community resulting from all their community involvement.
“When you are givers and donators, and you help people in need, you get more referrals to make money because you're doing good. Give back, and things will come back to you — that's what we do,” he added.
As Junk Junk Baby! continues to grow its franchising footprint, more owners have the opportunity to take advantage of this meaningful and rewarding business model. The brand is looking to partner with interested parties in Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire, which are close to the brand’s headquarters in Boston.
The startup costs for a Junk Junk Baby! franchise range from $84,775 to $131,500, which includes a franchise fee of $45,000 that must be paid to the franchisor. To learn more about franchising with Junk Junk Baby!, visit https://junkjunkbaby.com/franchising/.
