Sports and rehab medicine physician Dr. Derek Scott is bringing at least three locations of the Famous Dave’s barbecue chain to the Atlanta metro area, What Now Atlanta recently reported. With a history of blending his professional and entrepreneurial pursuits, Dr. Scott is expanding his restaurant portfolio to include the beloved barbecue brand that he first discovered while living in Washington.
“Living in Tacoma, it was a go-to restaurant for me and the family,” Dr. Scott said. “That’s when I was first introduced to Famous Dave’s. I’ve been a big fan of the brand for decades.”
Dr. Scott is no stranger to the restaurant business. During his time as a medical student at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, he owned a restaurant called Taste of Chicago, which catered to students with late-night cravings for Chicago-style favorites like Italian beef sandwiches and hot dogs. The venture fulfilled a need for comfort food in the area and demonstrated his ability to identify and meet local demand.
With Famous Dave’s, Dr. Scott is aiming to replicate the same sense of community and value. He has plans to open the first restaurant in 2025, with Alpharetta and Johns Creek as initial target locations. Buckhead and Marietta are also being considered for future sites. His agreement with Famous Dave’s currently includes three locations, though he expressed interest in eventually opening more restaurants.
The Famous Dave’s menu features a variety of barbecue classics, including award-winning ribs, sandwiches, burgers and salads. Dr. Scott specifically praised the convenience and value of the Famous Feasts. “You order ahead and the food is ready,” he said. “It’s enough to feed a family, and enough for a snack for the next day.”
As Dr. Scott prepares to bring the restaurant he and his family have loved for decades to Georgia, fans of barbecue in metro Atlanta can look forward to experiencing Famous Dave’s signature flavors in their own backyard.
