Beaufort, SC -- FirstLight® Home Care, a leading provider of non-medical personal and companion home care services, is expanding its national network of franchises with one location in Beaufort, South Carolina. Local franchisee Craig Randall has signed on to open a new FirstLight location this summer.
Craig and his father Don have been business partners for over seven years, and they’ve owned businesses ranging from storage facilities to gold mines in the jungles of Guyana in South America. In 2011, the price value of gold was depleting, so Craig and Don began digging into other business opportunities with longevity. At that same time, Don’s mother became ill, and they both spent time in Greenville, South Carolina caring for her. As her condition worsened, she had one request: to die in the comfort of her own home. This began the search for an in-home caregiver to grant her last wish.
To Craig’s surprise, RN nurses were prohibitively expensive. This is what ultimately opened his eyes to other in-home care options that were more affordable. In 2011, Craig stumbled upon FirstLight during his search and felt it fit perfectly into his personal life. At the same time, he recognized that it was also a great opportunity for business, which is what inspired the father-son duo to sign on as franchisees.
Craig and Don’s first FirstLight franchise location opened its doors in February of 2012 in Myrtle Beach. Five short years later in 2017, it was awarded “Franchise of the Year” at the brand’s conference. Their second location then opened in September 2017, and now that the family has relocated to Charleston, they’re now opening their third location in Beaufort. One thing that continues to fuel this success and growth is the opportunity Craig and Don have to give back to the local community—especially veterans.
“There is an enormous Marine base in Beaufort and the entire town has a military vibe. It is a tough, hardworking blue collar town, and we’re looking forward to help people across the area,” said Craig.
