A Day in the Life of a Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs Operator

As a multi-unit operator of Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs, an 18-unit gym franchise, Alexis Knake performs a high-energy role that comes with many high-level responsibilities. Since starting with the company two years ago, the position has taught her much about being a team player; Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs has a very collaborative culture where members of the franchise help each other grow.

“It has blown my mind how much I've been able to grow and the company has been able to grow within the last two years. I've never seen a rate of success like this before,” said Knake. “One of my favorite things about this job is how much they have helped me develop and how I get to pass that on.”

Knake joined the franchise in late 2020 when her aunt, Emily Janssen, multi-unit franchisee and director of real estate and marketing, opened the Mahomet, Illinois Fitness Premier location. After a few months, she was promoted to operator of the Champaign gym and the satellite location at the University of Champaign-Urbana.

Splitting her time between each location, Knake is able to engage and help out wherever she is needed. The three gyms she operates are all close by — within 20 minutes of each other — so she can be versatile and available. Knack explained her role includes “a little bit of everything,” with both customer and staff duties.

“It can be anywhere from giving potential members tours around the gym, answering questions, getting them signed up for a membership, doing coaching sessions, assessments, training clients, teaching fitness classes and handling general daily phone calls,” Knake said. 

“Internally, I meet one-on-one with employees to build morale and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed. I regularly travel to the corporate office for training and development,” she continued. “It's different every single day, and it's a lot of fun.”

Knake is able to handle such a variety of duties, thanks to the team atmosphere and comradery at Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs. She gives credit to the immense support the franchise provides its staff on an ongoing basis.

“There is a tremendous level of support through our corporate office. We have a communication system for support where you submit a ticket, and they're so quick to reply with an answer. They are always there to help you figure it out,” she said.

In addition to the help received from headquarters, there is a collaborative atmosphere between the franchisees and operators. Knake said they are “always learning.”

“The operators constantly get together to review reports, update systems and processes, and keep things fresh and new. Fitness Premier values hearing ideas from everybody,” she said. “It's refreshing to be with a company that understands times are changing, and we have to keep up with that via training and development.”

Knake is excited to continue her career within the Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs system and develop professionally alongside the growing brand as it adds more locations. The company has ambitious plans to scale the gym concept to reach 200 units by 2030.

“We're talking about opening locations left and right. Each time has been such a new and fun experience, and I hope that I can continue to be a part of that success and continue growing and building new relationships,” Knake said.
