How Multi-Unit Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs Owner Michael Orwig is Building a Strong Team to Find Success in the Wellness Industry

Michael Orwig took a leap of faith when he left his job to open a Fitness Premier 24/7 Clubs location. Today, he operates two units of the Midwest-based fitness franchise in Bourbonnais and Manteno, Illinois and works with the brand’s corporate team as its regional director of leadership and development. As a multi-unit operator, Orwig has established a solid team of employees who he says are essential to his success as an owner and the success of the brand at large.

Orwig says his experience in leadership has also shown him that by investing as much time as necessary into staying organized, he can reflect back to see all he has accomplished as he works to continuously build the Fitness Premier brand.

Orwig says the first part of his day is all about touching base with the team of operators who run his locations. They discuss who they’re meeting with and what their opportunities for the day look like. Orwig also emphasized the importance of training staff members as well as working on the growth and development of the business. 

“I speak with our operators so that we can maintain focus on not only how to grow the business when it comes to revenue, but also how to evolve our procedures and train staff based on what their goals are, too,” he said.

Orwig gives at least two to four hours per week to each of his teammates to ensure that they’re getting what is necessary to help them grow as operators. 

Through the one-on-ones Orwig holds with every operator, he’s able to ensure he’s not only setting himself up as the owner of successful units but also setting his team up to be successful and eventually run their own locations and be the hub of the community that people come to for more than just a membership. They come for the atmosphere, the people, the nurturing environment and the culture that Fitness Premier stands for. It's not about the workout, it is completely about the members' experience that matters.
