While fast-casual chains are starting to provide healthier options, for those who are constantly on the road, there are still very limited options. According to a <a href="http://www.foodandwine.com/news/drive-thru-salad-bar-promises-fast-food-thats-actually-healthy?utm_source=1851franchise.com&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=food-wine-this-drive-thru-salad-bar-promises-fast-food-thats-actually-healthy-5942" target="_blank" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">recent Food &amp; Wine magazine article</a>, Salad and Go, an Arizona-based restaurant, serves you a salad straight from the drive-thru window for $6 per bowl. Founder Roushan Christofellis is a former elementary school teacher who was inspired to provide healthier options to the masses at a low cost, but also in a convenient way. As her and her husband saw her parents struggle with age-related health issues, they knew they had to take a closer look at what they were eating and the ingredients in their food. After changing their own diet and setting out to create the healthy fast food salad chain, they knew anything more than $6 for a salad would not be successful. They streamlined their operations, including having a tiny 656-square-foot building, to lower maintenance costs and keep their menu prices low. Christofellis and her husband have high hopes for the brand. The restaurant plans to expand into more states within 18 to 24 months, along with becoming a standard for consumers on the road and a model for future fast-food chains.
