1851 Interviews the Highest Profile Attorneys in Franchising for the 2018 Franchise Legal Player Awards

Name: David Paris
Firm: Paris Ackerman LLP
About Your Firm: Paris Ackerman is a boutique law firm, focused on multi-unit franchise M&A, commercial real estate and leasing transactions, and franchise finance.

What makes your firm stand out as a resource for the franchise industry?

Our commitment to client service and business minded approach to deals has resulted in our amassing a tremendous client base comprised of multi-unit operators in over a dozen brands!

What is the No. 1 thing a franchisor/franchisee should look for when identifying the right franchise attorney?

Clients should look for a franchise attorney who knows how to close a deal.  I find that many attorneys are impediments to progress. They get caught up in low-impact minutiae and wind up bringing risk to a deal.

When it comes to your work, what makes you happiest?

When new clients engage us based upon a recommendation from an existing client or another attorney.  It makes me equally happy to help my existing clients continue to grow, with a front row seat to watch their continued successes.

What are your top concerns for the franchise industry in the next year?

Interest rates rising and the negative implications of some of the new tax legislation.

What are you most optimistic about in the franchise industry in the next year?

Being that I am now officially a Popeyes franchisee, I am optimistic that we will continue to outpace the competition in the fried chicken category!
