Fresh Coat Painters, the 190-plus-unit painting franchise, empowers its franchise owners to make significant impacts in their communities through the Fresh Coat Cares initiative, a program that supports franchisees in giving back through meaningful local projects.

This year alone, Fresh Coat franchisees have completed eight projects, impacting thousands of people nationwide. Recent projects have included efforts benefitting local food pantries, support for domestic violence survivors and local arts initiatives.

Tampa Franchise Owner Transforms Homes for Domestic Violence Survivors

Matt Boden of Fresh Coat of Tampa is using his expertise to support domestic violence survivors through a partnership with Hands Across the Bay, a local organization that supports families in need throughout the community. Having experienced domestic violence in his own childhood, Boden found a personal connection to the cause.

In a recent project, Boden and his team transformed the home of a family in transition. Repainting a child’s room with a unicorn theme — complete with a seven-color accent wall — and completing a split red and blue design in another room to create a sense of individuality for two stepchildren that would soon move in, the team brought immense joy to the family.

“Seeing the joy on Cheyenne’s face when she saw her newly transformed room — it was a simple change, but it made a world of difference for her and her mom,” Boden said.

While this was just one project with Hands Across the Bay, Boden said he plans to do additional projects on an ongoing basis.

With his background in hospitality, Boden clearly recognizes the value of supporting the community. While this project was tied closely to some of his own experiences, supporting members of his own community in any capacity is the ultimate reward.

"It's always great to have a personal connection to whatever you're supporting,” Boden said. “But at the end of the day, you want to help people living in your community because those are the people who are helping to push your community forward.”

Marble Falls Franchise Brightens Local Food Pantry

Sarah Ross, the owner of Fresh Coat of Marble Falls, recently completed a project for Sharing the Harvest, a local food pantry. The nonprofit organization had an opportunity to move into a donated building to expand operations, but the space needed some additional care to make it more welcoming.

Ross, who has owned her franchise for over a decade and consistently volunteered at local food pantries, explained the importance of the project with Sharing the Harvest. While the new structure was an important step forward for the organization, providing additional space for food storage, indoor pickups and even community meals, the team desired to make the space itself brighter and more welcoming.

“The ceiling and some of the walls were dark and uninviting,” she said. “Someone at Sharing the Harvest reached out to me about potentially lightening up the space, and I was excited to help. This project gives them the opportunity to support even more families in new, bigger ways.”

Chicago Franchise Owner Supports Local Theater Through Fundraiser

In Chicago, Todd Carr combines his love for the arts with community service by supporting Hell in a Handbag Productions, a theater troupe known for original performances that resonate with the LGBTQ+ community. With a degree in musical theater and time spent performing as a vocalist in a Chicago-based alternative rock band, Carr knows the power of art and community.

His Fresh Coat Cares project was a donation to the troupe’s silent auction — something both personal and practical. The winner would be able to engage Carr and his teams to paint their bedroom walls any color, and they could have the project completed any time during 2025.

“This is our first step into giving back, and I think that’s notable,” he said. “I really appreciate what [Hell in a Handbag] contribute[s] to the community, so my involvement comes from an honest and sincere space. It’s not just about marketing for me. It’s about participating in something meaningful.”
