Kierstin Conner’s path into home care began with nursing and an affinity for working with seniors, but an opportunity from Home Halo founder Dan Deak ultimately changed the direction of her career. Now vice president of client and caregiver engagement at Home Halo, Conner helps support a home care company focused on helping older adults remain safely and independently at home. She was recently named to the Future Leaders Class of 2026 by Home Health Care News, which recognizes professionals 40 and younger who are helping shape the industry’s future.
Conner said Deak saw something in her before she knew exactly where a career in home care might lead. Once she entered the field, the ability to help people remain in familiar surroundings gave the work a significance that kept her there.
“My path started as a nurse and a genuine love for the senior population. I’ve always been drawn to serving people at their most vulnerable times,” Conner said. “The moment I stepped in, I fell in love with it. There’s something profoundly meaningful about helping someone stay in their own home, the place they’ve built their life, with their dignity intact. That combination of purpose and people kept me here.”
That experience has also influenced the way Conner approaches leadership. She told the publication that she initially relied heavily on hustle and learning as she went. With experience, she has become more deliberate about listening and giving others room to do their jobs well.
Her outlook comes at an important time for home care. Conner sees growing recognition of home-based care as a major opportunity for the industry, while attracting and retaining quality caregivers remains a significant challenge. She also expects technology to take on more of the logistical work in the years ahead, including scheduling and care coordination.
For Conner, however, the industry's future still comes back to the relationships at the center of the work. As technology assumes a larger role, she believes the connection between a caregiver and client will become an even more important point of distinction.
