HomeTeam Inspection Service, the home inspection franchise that covers more than 200 territories, has launched its newest office in East Sacramento with former construction management professional and real estate agent Cindy Smith. The national brand, which uses a unique home-based approach to provide quicker, more thorough inspections, has driven steady growth over recent years, bringing a professionalized, non-alarmist approach to the marketplace that buyers and sellers alike appreciate.
In addition to its unique consumer positioning, the brand has long offered an accessible, steady, growth-focused franchise opportunity for investors, supporting healthy growth across the country. While Smith’s entry to the East Sacramento market is an indicator of the brand’s overall health and trajectory, it also marks a valuable addition for local residents.
“I remember buying my first home, and it was the scariest thing I had ever done in my life,” Smith said. “I get it. And I’m so excited about working with people through this journey and reassuring them that, while it is scary, the process should be more exciting than it is scary.”
“We’re thrilled to have Cindy on board,” said Matt Cook, Director of Operations. “HomeTeam has always emphasized a steady, educational approach to inspections and communicating with our clients, and both Cindy’s prior professional experience and her current approach to business ownership position her perfectly to deliver on the HomeTeam promise for Sacramento residents.”
From Construction Management and Real Estate to Home Inspections
While Smith is bringing a new home inspection resource to the East Sacramento community, she is hardly new to the industry. She has extensive experience in both residential real estate and multi-billion-dollar construction projects, having served in a consultative capacity to major companies.
“I started out working in maintenance and grew into working in construction and large projects,” she said. “I ran multi-billion-dollar construction jobs for Fortune 50 companies and did a lot of consulting over the years.”
In the midst of her commercial construction career, Smith also spent a few years as a real estate agent, where she emphasized working with first-time homebuyers to support their journeys.
Over time, she started feeling like it was time for her next journey, longing for independence and a return to her roots in the housing market. After taking a break to explore her options, Smith identified the home inspection industry as her next target.
“I still wanted to do something in the realm of real estate and buildings, so I decided to go into the home inspection industry,” she said. “With HomeTeam, I have been able to do that while having control over what I do and when I do it. I still have my independence.”
A New Asset for Sacramento Buyers and Real Estate Agents
As Smith begins to grow her business, she’s excited about building something of her own, but she’s also looking forward to the impact she’ll have on the local market and the people she’ll serve.
“I find there are a lot of people in the home inspection industry who may be very good at the technical aspects of the job, but they’re not as strong on the relationship side of things,” she said. “I’m really excited about bringing a new level of professionalism to the market.”
Having worked as a real estate agent in the past, Smith brings a unique perspective to the table. Now, on the inspection side of the deal, she sees herself as a partner to real estate agents and their clients. Leveraging a collaborative approach, she aims to be the “boots on the ground” for her clients in what can feel like a chaotic experience.
“Through HomeTeam, I’m an extension of the buyer and agent’s team,” she said. “I’m there, and I’m able to be their hands, ears, or eyes on the ground — whatever they need. It’s really important to me, as an inspector and a resource for buyers, that I’m consistently communicating the facts of the matter in a non-alarmist way. I’ve been in this industry for a long time, and I’ve seen a lot of things, but the one thing I always come back to is the relationships. All of the friendships I’ve built and the truly personal interactions I’ve had — those are worth more than anything in the world, and I carry that focus with me in my HomeTeam journey, too.”
