Lawn Squad provides services such as fertilization, weed control, aeration and pest management for residential and commercial properties.

Mission: Lawn Squad’s mission is to combine expert, technology-driven lawn care with a strong franchise support system, to create beautiful, healthy lawns for customers while helping entrepreneurs build successful businesses.

Vision: Lawn Squad aims to stand out from traditional lawn care companies by using a technology-first approach to improve efficiency and service delivery for both customers and franchisees.

3. What Franchisee Support Does Lawn Squad Provide?

Training Programs

Lawn Squad provides comprehensive training to its franchisees through a structured program designed to ensure successful center operations. The training is divided into three key components:

  • Self-Paced Training: A 10-day self-paced virtual training covering topics like introduction to lawn care, marketing, sales, recruiting and equipment.
  • Weekly Guided Training: A four-week guided virtual training course focused on technical subjects, including turfgrass, pests, fertilizers, pesticides, safety, equipment care and technology administration.
  • In-Person Training: A one-week, in-person classroom and field training program currently held in Sheffield Village, Ohio, focusing on operations preparation and hands-on field experience. (The franchisor pays for the training itself but the franchisee is responsible for the travel, accommodation, meals and salaries for attendees)
  • Additional Support, Conferences:  Additional training is also offered after the business opens, including required or optional programs at times and locations set by the franchisor. The Key Person and other designated individuals are also required to attend the Annual Conference and Regional Conferences when called upon by the franchisor.

Operational Support

Lawn Squad offers comprehensive operational support to its franchisees, ensuring they have the necessary resources and guidance to run successful centers. This support encompasses various critical areas:

  • Systems And Tools: The franchisor provides access to the required technology platform, including branded email addresses and required software. The franchisor also loans the franchisee a confidential LSQ Operations Manual (in digital or hard copy form). This manual contains mandatory and suggested standards, procedures, and specifications for operating the franchised business.
  • Pre-Opening Assistance: The franchisor provides criteria for site selection and must approve the franchisee's chosen location. They also provide specifications for required equipment, vehicles, fixtures, and signage.
  • Marketing, Brand Fund: The franchisor manages a Brand Fund that supports the general development and recognition of the brand and it is responsible for the overall advertising and marketing program.

Technology and Tools

Lawn Squad equips its franchisees with a suite of technology tools designed to streamline operations and enhance the management of their centers.

Additionally, franchisees benefit from a technology fee, currently set at $450 per month, which covers two branded email addresses provided for the Franchised Business as well as required software and portals used in the operation of the Franchised Business, including Microsoft 365, HubSpot, FranConnect, Qvinci and the Operations Dashboard.

4. What Are the Franchise Requirements for Lawn Squad?

Eligibility Criteria

Lawn Squad requires $50,000 in Liquid Capital and a 690 credit score. For SBA Express loan applications, $15,000 Liquid Capital is required.

While prior experience in the industry is beneficial, it's not a strict requirement. Lawn Squad’s comprehensive training program is designed to equip franchisees with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

Operational Commitments

The franchisee must comply with brand standards, which may include the requirement of initial and periodic drug testing and background checks. If the franchisee is a business entity, all owners who own a 5% or greater interest in the entity must sign the personal guarantee, making each owner individually liable for all obligations under the franchise agreement.

Funding Assistance

  • A 30% reduction in the franchise fee is offered for honorably discharged veterans and active personnel of the American and Canadian armed forces. This applies only to the first franchise.
  • A $5,000 reduction in the franchise fee is offered for minority-owned, women-owned and LGBTQ+-owned businesses. This applies only to the first franchise.
  • A $5,000 reduction in the franchise fee is offered for law enforcement officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses or EMTs/paramedics who own businesses. This applies only to the first franchise.
  • Franchisees of the franchisor's affiliates receive a franchise fee reduction to $15,000 per business for the first two territories and a 30% reduction for the third and subsequent territories licensed in the initial transaction.

5. What Is the Market Potential for Lawn Care Services?

With the landscaping services market set to reach revenues near $200 billion, the franchised lawn care services industry is healthy. Annual growth of more than 5% indicates the industry remains primed for growth.

A demand for lawn care services in both the residential and commercial sectors helps ensure growth while seasonal offerings help drive an often subscription-based recurring revenue stream.

Overall, the early franchised lawn care marketplace promises opportunities for growth and investment thanks to increased homeowner investment.

Competitor Analysis

Lawn Squad distinguishes itself in the franchised lawn care services sphere thanks to a focus on quality, community and a VitaminLawn Program which helps drive a successful, subscription-based recurring stream of income.

In terms of competition, Lawn Squad faces several notable players in the franchised lawn care services sector, including TruGreen, The Grounds Guys, Lawn Doctor and U.S. Lawns. However, while these institutions offer various programs, Lawn Squad’s unique focus on people and community provide a distinct niche despite an increasingly crowded marketplace.
