Dave Satcher worked in manufacturer consulting for many years, but the constant travel requirement began to wear on him after some time. When he decided that he was ready for a change in his career path, Satcher enlisted the help of a franchise broker. That professional connected him with Lawn Doctor, a 600-plus-unit lawn care franchise.

“One of the biggest things that appealed to me was the ability to be home and working on your own schedule. After many years of hard work on the road, the thought of being able to stay close to home and do something in nature was a huge draw,” Satcher said. “I was ready for change and the brand presented me with a great opportunity.”

Satcher went through the due diligence process and was impressed with Lawn Doctor. He was able to have multiple discussions with existing franchisees learning what it was about and what success looks like as an owner. He heard about the proven track record, multiple recurring revenue streams, incredible marketing programs, and the high retention of customers the brand has.

After learning about the franchise’s organized system and business model, which comes from five decades of performance history and a seasoned, experienced team, he was sold.

“Having processes already in place was a big attraction for me,” he said. “I wasn't going to have to reinvent something; I was able to take a system that was already put together and being used across the nation and apply it in my market.”

Satcher signed on for two territories in the Mason–West Chester area of Ohio in 2014. In the eight years since, he has scaled his business to include a few acquisitions and now has five territories covering Cincinnati to Dayton.

“That great thing about Lawn Doctor is that it’s a business that’s relatively simple and straightforward to grow. Adding additional areas doesn’t require adding additional locations, making it easier financially and logistically to expand,” Satcher added.

He has continually reinvested in the brand because he admires the comprehensive support that the company has always given him. From initial training and having regional advisors show him the ropes, to the brand’s marketing efforts and tight-knit network of other Lawn Doctor franchisees, Satcher is part of a large community of support.

“One thing I love about Lawn Doctor is how unified all the business owners are together. I get a lot of advice by picking up the phone and calling other operators who have done this for a while and been very successful,” he said. “We also have regional meetings where we share best practices, and that’s a huge benefit.”

After eight years of business, Satcher finds himself just as excited about this venture as when he first joined the company. His team has continued to grow, along with his territories’ customer bases and annual revenues.

“I have learned so much and put so much into this business over the years, and gotten an abundance out of it,” said Satcher. “I’m thankful to be a part of Lawn Doctor's efforts.”

The startup costs for a Lawn Doctor franchise range from $116,465–$141,815. To learn more about franchising with Lawn Doctor, visit https://lawndoctorfranchise.com/.
