After historic rainfalls from Hurricane Harvey this week, many restaurants in Texas and Louisiana have closed. According to a recent Nation’s Restaurant News article, some are still lending a hand and making donations of food to residents in their local communities.

Shake Shack’s Houston location was lucky enough not to flood but was closed since most employees couldn’t get to work due to the flooding. For those who could get to the store, they were eager to make an impact.

“We had four or five guys who went into the Shack and started cooking burgers for all the police and anyone else who was in,” said CEO Randy Garutti. “We just cooked burgers and gave them away.”

Which Wich franchisee, Julio Chavez, left his home and is staying with his father in Katy where he owns two locations. To help out, he has made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for residents staying at the shelter at Cinco Ranch High School.
