Beginning with a Nov. 2, 2015 restaurant opening on Mercantile Parkway in Houston, Slim Chickens is readying for a southern expansion.

The Fayetteville, Arkansas-based restaurant chain plans to open 20 restaurants in the market over the next five years. Among the areas Slim Chickens will expand include Spring, Rosenberg, Richmond, Cypress and Sugar Land, Texas in 2016.

General Manager of the new Katy location, Nathan Woodard, said Slim Chickens plans to grow its presence by opening three to five locations per year until capacity is reached in Houston.

Woodward said the company is also interested in opening restaurants in Houston malls and potentially one of the city's airports. System-wide, the brand hopes to increase its national presence from 25 storefronts to 600 by 2025.

Slim Chickens is expanding corporately through Houston, but they are working with franchisees to open seven to 10 restaurants in Austin and other parts of Central Texas.
