Rachel Stolba is a warrior when it comes to getting on the phones and pitching the media. As one of the best around, she always knows the hook of the story and who the best person to call is. We talked to Rachel to get her tips on how to stand out as an Account Executive with No Limit Agency.

No Limit Agency: What about your background has helped lead to your success as a member of the media relations team?

Rachel Stolba: I was fortunate to attend a school that had a public relations major, an industry I’ve planned on working in since I was in middle school. The program focused on practical knowledge instead of theoretical and I feel like that really prepared me for a real job in the industry.

NLA: What has NLA provided to help in your development and success in the role?

RS: In this crazy world of PR, NLA provides me with the structure, procedures and support to succeed. We have developed great ways for keeping track of everything from your projects to your pitching to your interviews and for me, organization matters a lot to my success. We also have a great team- there is constantly someone there to help you out. And while we do keep a friendly competition going, we know that at the bottom line we’re all working on and for the same team.

NLA: What type of people do you think are most cut out to find success in the model and with the expectations of the role?

RS: The most important traits for someone to have in this job are to be fearless and tenacious. In this position you hear no a lot and even when you don’t hear no, you’ll often hear nothing at all. You can’t be afraid to go after it, continue to follow up and push for our clients until we have success.

NLA: Are there any elements of the job you feel provide personal value to you? What gets you excited about coming to work?

RS: We get hands on experience and guidance in press pitching, press writing, client interaction and problem solving every day. Getting to work on those fundamentals of PR with the help of an experienced team everyday will set me up for success in my career at NLA and beyond. But what gets me excited on an early, groggy Monday morning? It’s the people I work with and the environment we’ve created here. It’s a lot easier to work hard when you know you can get up and play a game of ping pong at the end of the day or have a beer Friday afternoon while we talk about the weeks successes.

NLA: What are the challenges? Where does the stress or challenge come from - and what have you done to overcome?

RS: Coordinating with clients, franchisees, reporters and more, who all have differing priorities than you can be very frustrating. My biggest challenge is the daily struggle to explain what public relations is to the people we work with and the value in it. We also work with a wide variety of clients so there’s another challenge in keeping everything organized and knowing each client well in order to producer results.
