It’s a common issue that haunts homeowners across the country: over time, window seals fail, they fill up with moisture and then become foggy. In the past, the only way to fix this problem was to replace the window entirely. But when The Glass Guru first opened its doors for business 14 years ago, it revolutionized the glass and window industry.
Founded by Dan and Joy Frey in 2002, The Glass Guru was the first company in the US to provide consumers with a one of a kind alternative to window replacement. When glass becomes foggy, the brand leverages its own technology to repair the window instead of completely removing it, once again making it clear. And as CEO Dan notes, The Glass Guru is now the only franchise company in the U.S. that offers this signature service.
“I was in my 20s and selling investments for a boutique venture capital company when the idea for The Glass Guru first came to me. I learned about this unique window repair that could fix foggy windows as it was just being commercialized in Canada, and it hadn’t had any exposure in the U.S. yet. I really didn’t know a lot about windows or glass at the time, but I was able to recognize good technology when I saw it,” said Frey. “As I started doing research, I learned how big of a problem failing window seals are for people across the U.S. It’s actually the most common problem with windows and doors in the country. That’s when the lightbulb came on. My wife and I took it upon ourselves to reengineer the technology that was available at the time, making some key improvements to the process before we started promoting and offering the repair. Once the word got out in our area that this repair technology was available, we started growing very quickly. That was 14 years ago, and now we’re the authority for providing foggy window repair services throughout the country.”
While The Glass Guru started with the foggy window repair service, the brand has expanded its offerings over the course of the past 14 years. Now, in addition to its guaranteed signature service, the brand also offers a variety of window and glass services including traditional repairs and replacements as well as some additional niche services like in-glass pet doors and sound reducing glass. And The Glass Guru technicians aren’t limited to working with windows—they also work with doors, screens, mirrors, showers and baths, skylights and commercial storefronts, providing a one-stop solution for their residential and commercial customers
“At its core, The Glass Guru is a full-service residential glass concept that combines unique, money-saving restoration services, traditional repairs and replacements and custom niche services. We take a professional and customer-centric approach to our systems, training and corporate culture. Our industry standards have needed a face-lift for a long time and we are raising the bar with our people, products and processes alike,” Frey said. “At the end of the day, there isn’t another glass and window company out there that can compete with what The Glass Guru can do. It’s clear that our concept is resonating with consumers, and we’re looking forward to introducing our brand to even more markets as we continue to expand.”
According to Sean Young, The Glass Guru’s Director of Operations, it’s this ability to diversify its services that puts the brand in a great position as it reaches more consumers. Demand for top quality home services is at an all-time high, and given the recession resistant nature of the industry, it means that people will always need to call in the professionals to fix their glass and windows.
“The Glass Guru is a really unique concept because the home services segment is really hot right now. There’s a high degree of consumer confidence when it comes to investing in homes, and energy efficiency and green technologies are hot-button items,” said Young. “But where The Glass Guru really shines when it comes to connecting with consumers is our ability to provide a higher level of service than traditional contractors. Our teams are friendly and professional, and actually show up on time, ready to evaluate what’s going on in a home or business in order to provide the best repair, restoration or replacement solutions possible for that specific situation, even when it’s not the most expensive solution That doesn’t happen enough in the contracting world, and that’s where we’re able to stand out from the competition.”
With nearly 100 locations up and running in communities across the country, The Glass Guru is reaching more customers than ever before. And as the brand continues to expand its reach in major metropolitan areas across North America, it’s positioned to further solidify its reputation as the top consumers choice in the glass and window sector.
